DLNR SEEKS ENTRIES FOR WILDLIFE STAMP ART CONTEST

The Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of Forestry and Wildlife is seeking entries in an art contest to depict the Chukar partridge for its 2002-2003 Hawai'i Wildlife Conservation Stamp. The Chukar partridge is an introduced game bird that is found on all the main Hawaiian islands. This stamp is required on the Hawai'i State hunting license and is available to wildlife stamp collectors.

Artists are invited to submit slides or color copies of their wildlife paintings, and a pencil sketch of their proposed painting of the Chukar partridge must accompany the application. Applications may be obtained from the Division of Forestry, 1151 Punchbowl St., room 325, or via the internet at www.state.hi.us/dlnr/dofaw

The deadline for submitting applications and sample artwork is 4 p.m. on February 20, 2002.

The final painting will be reduced to a 1" by 1.5" image for use on the wildlife stamp. The painting should not be framed. The final painting must be received by the Division of Forestry and Wildlife by April 5, 2002. Oil paintings must be dry when submitted. The artist that is selected will retain ownership of the painting after the wildlife stamp has been created; however, the Division of Forestry and Wildlife will retain all reproduction rights. The application form has a blank where the applicant may indicate the fee they would charge for the painting if theirs is selected. Since our first consideration will be the quality and appropriateness of the art work, the lowest bid will not necessarily be selected.

Important dates to remember are:

February 20 Deadline for submittal of application, examples of artwork and pencil sketch
February 22 Selection of the artist
April 5 Deadline for submittal of the completed painting
