KAUA‘I MAN ARRESTED ON HUNTING, OTHER CHARGES

LIHU‘E — A Kaua‘i man, 46, will appear in Fifth Circuit Court tomorrow, March 18, 2003, on various criminal charges including illegal hunting and camping in a forest reserve.

Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement (DOCARE) worked closely with Kaua‘i Police Vice Officers to arrest the suspect in Koke‘e, (Honopu Ridge) Kaua‘i. The suspect was charged with the following offenses:

1. Criminal contempt of court bench warrant.
2. Commercial promotion of marijuana in the first degree.
3. Hunting game mammals without a license.
4. Littering and promoting unsanitary conditions.
5. Hunting license required
6. Prohibited hunting in a forest reserve.
7. Prohibited operation of a vehicle.
8. Failure to control animal(s) in forest reserve.
9. Prohibited residence in a forest reserve.
10. Failure to comply with state, county, and federal laws.
11. Camping without a permit within a forest reserve.

The suspect is being held at Kaua‘i Community Correctional Center in lieu of $17,900 bail. The case was bound over to the Fifth Circuit Court. No other information is available as the investigation is still continuing.
