DLNR Holds Information Meeting
On Pohoiki Ramp Project

PAHOA, HAWAII – The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) invites the public to attend an information meeting about its Pohoiki boat ramp and loading dock replacement project, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 18. The meeting will be held at Pahoa High School cafeteria, 15-3038 Puna Road.

“The existing boat ramp and loading dock serve recreational fishermen. We are planning to replace them due to their poor condition,” said Peter Young, DLNR chairperson.

This boat ramp and loading dock replacement project is currently in the final design and permitting stage by DLNR’s consultant firm Wilson Okamoto Corporation. DLNR received $800,000 in federal and state funds for design and construction of the project. However, construction cost estimates will require an additional $700,000 in funds to be requested next year from the State Legislature.

“These improvements are part of the Lingle-Aiona Administration’s ongoing efforts to upgrade our state small boat harbors and to ensure accessibility, safety, and comfort of all residents and visitors who use the boating facilities,” said DLNR chairperson Peter Young.

Any person requiring special accommodation for the meeting (such as large print material, sign language interpreters etc.) is asked to contact Ed Underwood in Honolulu at (808) 587-1967 or Nancy Murphy on Hawaii at (808) 329-4997.
