HILO — In recognition of National Safe Boating Week, the Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) invites the public to an information day from 10 am to noon, on Sunday May 20 at the Wailoa Small Boat Harbor next to the boat launch ramp. “The purpose of this forum is to provide information on current rules, offer safety checks, and answer questions from East Hawai‘i boaters and other ocean recreation users,” said Allan Smith, DLNR interim chairperson. Representatives from DLNR’s divisions of Conservation and Resources Enforcement, Boating and Ocean Recreation, Aquatic Resources, along with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, will be present to answer questions and provide information regarding boating, personal water craft use and other ocean resource use. There will be free U.S. Coast Guard safety inspections available for those attending who bring their boat and/or personal watercraft (PWC) to the forum.
