HONOLULU — In the interest of public safety, and protection of natural resources, Department of Land and Natural Resources will close Pu‘u ‘Ualaka‘a State Park (Tantalus) early, at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, July 4, to reduce the chances of fire spreading from illegal fireworks. "Use of fireworks in state parks and forest reserves is illegal," said Allan Smith, Department of Land and Natural Resources interim chairperson. "Our forests and coastlines are natural resources that need to be protected by the public so we can enjoy their beauty for generations. As we celebrate our national freedom, let us also be good citizens who respect our land and waters," said Smith. The parks will reopen the next day at 7 a.m. and return to its normal summer closing time of 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 5. # # #
