Training

DOFAW provides training from the basic firefighter course to intermediate/advanced fire suppression skills as well as the Incident Command System (ICS). The ICS is the basic organizational structure DOFAW employs for the safe and effective conduct of fire suppression activities. Basic firefighter training is taught by the DOFAW Fire Protection Cadre consisting of the Branch Protection Foresters (5) and the State Protection Forester. Basic firefighting training can be taught at anytime by the DOFAW Fire Protection Cadre when a request is made. More advanced components of fire training is done through a request of the U.S. Forest Service, Region 5, out of Mather, California. Advanced training courses must be scheduled well in advance (usually a year ahead of time).
