The Western State Fire Managers (WSFM) is a working group
established by the Council of Western State Foresters
(CWSF). They, in turn, are a regional subcommittee of the
National Association of State Foresters.
PURPOSE:
The purpose of the WSFM is to:
- serve as a specialist staff group for the CWSF to
collect information, provide detailed analysis, and make
recommendations on fire issues affecting the 17 western
states and Pacific territories.
- aid in merging regional viewpoints, focusing
attention, and reaching consensus on recommending a
western approach on fire issues for the CWSF.
- serve as a sounding board for the CWSF on
fire-related issues concerning the National Wildfire
Coordination Group (NWCG), National Association of State
Foresters (NASF) Committees, federal agencies, etc.
- provide a western states perspective on needs for
fire equipment development and fire research.
- provide opportunity for increased interaction and
effectiveness among Western Fire Managers.
- offer recommendations to the CWSF concerning western
state representation on NWCG working teams.
- provide a forum for other fire-related organizations
to disseminate fire information and ideas to the western
state forestry organizations.
MEMBERS:
The WSFM comprises of the 17 western states and the
western Pacific Island territories including Guam. The
member states are as follows:

MEETINGS
The WSFM hold quarterly tele-conference calls and hold
an annual meeting/workshop at a site determined by its
members.
