July 28, 2014 - News Release: Hawaii Energy and Commission on Water Resouce Management Release Two New Handbooks to Encourage Water Conservation and Greater Energy Efficiency. Water and energy usage are inextricably linked, referred to as the water-energy nexus, due to the significant energy required to transport and treat water and wastewater. This means that conserving water conserves energy and reducing water loss reduces energy consumption.

July - August 2014 - Ready, Set, Go! Community Wildfire Preparedness Workshops Scheduled on the Big Island. Unlike other natural hazards, wildfire is unique in that there are many things you can do ahead of time to reduce your risk of losing property or loved ones. Residents can take charge by strategically reducing vegetation around homes, fire-proofing homes and structures with non-combustible materials, and creating and practicing a thorough family emergency plan. April 7, 2014 - USDA's Farm Service Agency Announces Livestock Disaster Sign-Up Date. U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) Administrator Juan M. Garcia announced today that farmers and ranchers can sign-up for disaster assistance programs, reestablished and strengthened by the 2014 Farm Bill, beginning Tuesday, April 15, 2014. [Programs include: Livestock Forage Disaster Program (LFP), Livestock Indemnity Program (LIP), Emergency Assistance for Livestock, Honeybees, and Farm-Raised Fish Program (ELAP), Tree Assistance Program (TAP)]

Janurary 15, 2014 - USDA Designates 2 Counties in Hawaii as Primary Natural Disaster Areas. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has designated Hawaii County, Maui County, and Kalawao County as primary natural disaster areas due to a recent drought.
