April 7, 2014 - USDA's Farm Service Agency Announces Livestock Disaster Sign-Up Date. U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) Administrator Juan M. Garcia announced today that farmers and ranchers can sign-up for disaster assistance programs, reestablished and strengthened by the 2014 Farm Bill, beginning Tuesday, April 15, 2014. [Programs include: Livestock Forage Disaster Program (LFP), Livestock Indemnity Program (LIP), Emergency Assistance for Livestock, Honeybees, and Farm-Raised Fish Program (ELAP), Tree Assistance Program (TAP)]

The Act repeals certain programs, continues some programs with modifications, and authorizes several new programs administered by the Farm Service Agency (FSA). Most of these programs are authorized and funded through 2018..

Janurary 15, 2014 - USDA Designates 2 Counties in Hawaii as Primary Natural Disaster Areas. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has designated Hawaii County, Maui County, and Kalawao County as primary natural disaster areas due to a recent drought.

December 30, 2013 - Water Restriction Downgraded to Water Conservation Notice Effective Immediately. Due to recent rainfall, the Department of Water Supply is downgrading the Water Restriction in the affected area to Water Conservation effective immediately. Affected area: FROM WAIMEA DOWN TO, BUT NOT INCLUDING KAWAIHAE VILLAGE SUBDIVISION, WAIMEA AIRPORT, LALAMILO FARM LOTS, AND PUUKAPU-HONOKAIA-NIENIE AREAS; SOUTH KOHALA, HAWAII.

November 13, 2013 - Drought Cancelled for Upcountry Maui. Maui County DWS lifts its request for voluntary water use cutbacks. Recent heavy rains have increased reservoirs to safe levels and the weather forecast indicates more rainfall.

 

November 8, 2013 - County of Hawaii DWS Requires Customers Reduce Water Consumption by 25% in Waimea, South Kohala. Due to continuing dry weather conditions, the Department of Water Supply is the affected area under WATER RESTRICTION effective immediately. Affected area: FROM WAIMEA DOWN TO, BUT NOT INCLUDING KAWAIHAE VILLAGE SUBDIVISION, WAIMEA AIRPORT, LALAMILO FARM LOTS, AND PUUKAPU-HONOKAIA-NIENIE AREAS; SOUTH KOHALA, HAWAII.

 

November 8, 2013 - 2013/2014 Hawaii Wet Season Outlook Released. National Weather Service Honolulu Forecast Office issues its outlook for the wet season (October 2013 through April 2014). The release also summarizes this year's dry season (May - September 2013) moisture conditions.
