Throughout history, artists have
created works depicting the human body
through portraiture, figure studies,
and symbolic representations.
Additionally, life drawing of nude
models is essential in arts training.
The exhibit showcases 44 works from

This
exhibition
reflects a mix of Hawai‘i’s ethnic
and cultural traditions. Where
We Live began as Enriched
by Diversity, the inaugural
exhibit of the Hawai‘i State Art
Museum (HiSAM). Portions of the
exhibition were changed within its
ten-year span.
In much of the art, a Western
aesthetic is combined with the
traditional aesthetic of Pacific
Island and Asian cultures, a
testament to Hawai‘i’s unique
geographic location and its history
as a crossroads for people and
ideas. The exhibit is divided into Where We Live:
